WINTER OUTDOOR DAY

On January 26 and January 29, between term 3 and 4, we are planning for two unique school days for grade 9 and 10 students. One of those days will focus on outdoor and experiential education.

Note: Of the two days available between the terms, one is reserved for grade 9 Life Skills programming with Mr. Primrose or grade 10 University Counselling Bootcamp programming. Those programs have priority over OED if students are missing the other day due to academic programming (Model UN trip or exams associated with gr 11/12 classes).

Listed below are the activity options planned for the grade 9/10 winter outdoor day. Additional trip/activity-specific information can be accessed with the links on the left side of this page.

CULINARY CREATIONS & INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING
This two-part workshop will provide a 1/2 day of culinary creations in the on-campus kitchens with an inspiring chef. The other 1/2 day will be spent climbing/bouldering at UVIC’s CARSA indoor climbing gym.

This 1-day adventure will include wilderness first aid, backcountry survival techniques, and fire and shelter building. While hiking in local parks and wilderness areas, students will learn from wilderness experts how to thrive in the wilderness.

SEWING, TEXTILES & FASHION REDESIGN
Are you looking re-design, re-purpose or fashion new clothing of your own? Working with a local sewing aficionado, students will spend a full day developing their sewing/sewing machine skills as they restore and create new items.

This is a 1-day recreational ski/snowboard day at Mt. Washington Ski Resort. Students will travel by coach bus to and from Mt. Washington. Estimated costs: Transportation $55, Lift ticket $35, Rentals $35.
