CULINARY CREATIONS workshop INFORMATION

TRIP DATES: 1/2 day on January 26 or 29, 2024

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: This workshop will provide students with a 1/2 day of cooking skills and fun in the on-campus kitchens. Working with an amazing chef, students will develop their understanding and skills in the kitchen.

ITINERARY

Morning Cooking Groups

  • 8:45 am - Meet in the Bolton Timmis Common Room for cooking session

  • 11:20 am - finish cooking session. Lunch break. Boarders head to Sun Centre for lunch.

  • NOON - Bus from Crothall to UVIC/CARSA for climbing.

Afternoon Cooking Groups

  • Morning climbing session at UVIC. Return to SMUS 11:45 am.

  • Lunch break. Boarders head to Sun Centre for lunch.

  • 12:15: Meet in the Bolton Timmis Common room for cooking sessions

  • 2:45 pm finish cooking session.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT: Students do not need to wear school uniform on outtrips/outdoor days. Regular clothing and running shoes are great. They should dress for the weather and arrive with the following items in a small backpack (the student’s regular school backpack is perfect).

  • Raincoat/windproof jacket

  • Close-toe footwear (running shoes)

  • Full water bottle and a lunch (boarding students can go to lunch at Sun Centre)

  • Journal/pencil/pen (optional)

PHONES: Students should not use their phones or other devices during the activity day.

MEALS/FOOD: Day students should bring a full water bottle, snacks and a hearty lunch. Boarding students should bring a full water bottle and should go to Sun Centre for lunch.

TRANSPORTATION: The cooking activity takes place on campus. For the other 1/2 day portion of their outdoor day, students will be transported in a school bus.

GROUP EQUIPMENT: The instructors will provide activity-specific equipment for the group. This will include kitchen appliances and tools (stoves, ovens, knives, cutting boards, ingredients…). The guides will also bring first aid equipment (cell phone, first aid kit).

STAFFING/SUPERVISION: Instruction and supervision will be provided by the OED guide/teacher teaching the program.

SUPERVISOR/STUDENT RATIO: 1:20

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: This is a school-sponsored outing and school rules apply. Participants are expected to follow the safety guidelines set by the instructional staff and the resort staff. Participants should arrive with the equipment outlined in this package.
